TRICARE Retail/Mail Order Pharmacy (Express-Scripts)


The Pharmacy stocks only those items that are on the approved drug formulary list providing for in-house medical support. Diabetic supplies are included in the formulary list. Medications dispensed are limited to those items contained on the Formulary. A maximum of a 90-day supply will be dispensed for maintenance medications at any given time.

New Prescription Service

New prescriptions can be presented at the pharmacy anytime during 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please ensure that you have your military identification card. DEERS authorization is mandatory on all new prescriptions; excluding John Hopkins.

Refill Service

Fort Detrick has a mandatory prescription refill call-in service. Any prescription originating at other Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) within the region may also be called in to the Fort Detrick Pharmacy using the 1-800-377-1723 number, or by using the on-line portal below.


Refill prescriptions will be ready for pickup after 2 duty days. Please Refill your medication at least 7 days before you are out.

ID Requirements

When picking up prescriptions for yourself, you must have your Military ID card with you. When picking up prescriptions for family members or friends, you must bring that person's ID card with you. (Children 10 years and older must have an ID card.)

Who is eligible?

The Pharmacy Service is available to eligible beneficiaries of all ages. The Pharmacy serves all eligible active duty and retired military personnel and their family members, excluding John Hopkins Uniformed Services Family Health Plan.  Patients enrolled in the Johns Hopkins plan are not eligible for the prescription medication benefit at Barquist Army Health Clinic or any other military treatment facility.

How do I get a refill?

Call the automated refill line at 1-800-377-1723.  Ensure you have your prescription numbers readily available.

An alternate method is through the on-line portal below.


Requested refills can be picked up in 2 duty days.  Please allow 3-5 business days for special order medications.  Fort Detrick cannot accept any refills or new prescriptions over the phone or a fax from the doctor's office.

Can I transfer my prescription from another facility to Barquist?

Yes, eligible patients that have formulary prescription medication originally filled at another military or civilian pharmacy may have that prescription transferred to Barquist Pharmacy.  Transferred prescriptions will be ready for pick-up in 3 duty days.

What is the process for picking up a prescription?

Patients will be asked to obtain a number from the Q-Flow ticketing system.  The system places the patient in a queue and directs them to a servicing window for prescription processing.  Priority service is rendered to active duty service members in uniform.

Can I go to a TRICARE Mail Order/Retail Network Pharmacy?

If you are a TRICARE Prime enrollee in Region 1, or are 65 years of age or older, you can get a civilian prescription filled at one of the participating retail network pharmacies for a modest co-pay.  For more information on this program, please visit .

Can my family member pick up my prescription for me?

Yes. Persons wishing to pick up medications for family members over the age of 10 must have the patient’s ID card or MEDDAC Form 757 (Authorization to Release Prescription Medications to Third Parties) available at medical records.  The release form is required in order to protect the patient confidentiality (whether the patient is the sponsor, spouse or child).  The signed form is valid until the expiration date of the patients ID card.  Patients must be 18 years of age or older to pick up controlled substance prescriptions.
